Kids #WFH Tips: Create a space they'll use!
It’s officially that time of year! Whether your kids are back in the classroom, distance learning, or something in-between, having a work space for their academic and creative needs is a means to promote their productivity and happiness. Although likely the strangest back-to-school for both kids and parents to adapt to, with political unrest and a global pandemic, the education of our future generation is as important as ever.
Use the space you’ve got!
Use the space you have available, and be creative! Not having an extra room to refurbish into a substitute classroom is not the end of the world, nor is it necessarily the best option! Sometimes a converted closet with a desk and chair, or a hallway homework station fits the best with your space, and that’s OK.
With multiple children, hallway homework nooks are also a great option to allow your kids to work side-by-side, where you can keep an eye on them!
Prioritize comfort!
Set up their space where they feel comfortable, in rooms they already use. We know that if kids aren’t comfortable in their seats, they’ll find somewhere else to sit, which won’t be equipped for their homework or lessons. Keep posture in mind when selecting a desk and chair, so your kids can get through the school days comfortably. Repurposing dining room chairs or other furniture with a pillow for comfort is a great option to avoid unnecessary spending!
Foster their creativity!
Creative spaces will stimulate their brains, ignite their imaginations, and make this space somewhere they enjoy spending time. We highly recommend having items they only get to use while doing homework, like fluffy pens, a thinking cap, or a favourite notebook, so they differentiate between items that can be played with during school time and free time. Shelving and storage space is vital to keeping your kids’ space clutter-free, and fantastic for keeping items to peak their academic interest. A globe, a poster with their favourite constellation or a stack of their favourite books can take your space from boring to captivating!
We hope these tips help your kids stay happy, healthy and productive over this learning season! Check out our previous blog, ‘How To Curate a Work From Home Space that Works for You’ for more.
